      These early BCNR shows were quite astonishing emotionally. You can cross reference the song titles with a lyric site, maybe a lyric video. I would say that they no longer have this intensity live. That's why I tend to specialise in nascent bands in small venue, where the emotions are fresh and real.

This had been 'preventing' them setting up any social media, so there is no digital footprint, and no way to see, hear, or contact them except here. For now at least. If you can think of a good name for them, them leave it in a comment and we can put it into the mix. Pyongyang is fine as long as we don't end up flinging nukes at each other.

    Snap your head back intro! A tremendous performance from that start to that earthquake finish. Took a while to realize there's 7 people on that small stage. What a beautiful "racket" of sound they make. I love "500" with its deceptive half a minute of "seemingly normalness," erupting suddenly and ferociously, just as crazy, frenzied as ever. Sadly, a Google search shows at least 2 US bands called Magnolia, as well as bands from. France, Australia and, Japan. Do they have a web presence or Bandcamp page? Where are they from? Great/brilliant, imaginative music.

      @@LouSmith its so fascinating to see these performances, do you own the windmill or do you just have a long history with these bands, you dont have to answer but ive always wondered since ive started wondering, thank you so much for recording anyways!!

    • @LouSmith
      @LouSmith 4 дня назад

      @TakaOh haha. No I don't own the Windmill. I first set foot in it in 2011 when I followed the Fat White Family there after seeing them play at my regular music night Easycome acoustic. I just got a name for doing immersing, one shot videos, and also photos, and after a few years, I got a free pass, any gig, any time, so the Windmill became like my second home. Other venues were also happy for me to film there, so this had been extended to the George tavern, Venue MOT, and Amp studios as well as one or two that have since closed. For other venues, the bands themselves are happy to put me on their guest list. So yes, I have a great relationship with the venues, and many of the bands, but also the regular music fans and ecosystems surrounding the scene. I run a very rock and roll screen printing business, providing many of the bands'merch requirements and also shooting their early promo videos, so am supported financially like that. It's a great niche I've made for myself, and is really my entire life. Long may it remain so. As long as I am able to produce quality and relevant material, I'll keep at it. I'm 61 now, so hopefully a few more years. Undoubtedly, my efforts bring revenue and early exposure to the bands and the venues, so it's win win. I would say that just recently, with the cult of celebrity that social media brings, that the space is getting more and more full of people filming and documenting the shows, which I don't think is totally a good thing, but inevitable at the same time. I'm still, I think, considered the best and most influential of these, and there is a great feeling of love and respect for me when I go out, including a degree of protection from unruly audience members who think it's their right to upend me for getting in their precious way. I live it and love it.

    • @TakaOh
      @TakaOh 4 дня назад

      @@LouSmith you are such a lucky man rhat you have made the thing you love into your life and job, im guessing you love the newer bands that have come out of that area, im much younger than you but i aspire heavily to have something like this. ive mostly watched your videos of bcnr and black midi because those are two of my favorite bands right now, but i know theres an extensive list of bands that youve filmed, and ill definitely binge your videos when i can. keep doing what youre doing, i respect all of it immensely.

    • @LouSmith
      @LouSmith 4 дня назад

      @TakaOh thank you. Yes, it's worked out pretty well, and yes, I love many of the young bands coming through too, so I'm happy not to chase after the bands that have flown the coop. If they play a secret gig in a home venue I'll be there. There's some great bands on here, current stuff you may like, Pyongyang, Y, Charlemagne, Magnolia, honestly the list is endless. These ones from your preference for BM BCNR. Generally if I'm gonna stand in front of a stage for half an hour or more, I've got to think they're worth the effort, so I only film acts I really like.

I travelled from south of Brazil to São Paulo only to go to his concert and it was worth it. I've been to many many gigs, even in London when I lived there, and that night in São Paulo was a special one. The band seemed very happy and kind of united, anyway...a great vibe. Not sure where they can go really, although in a world where Idles/ Fontaines/ Slaves//softplay are massive and Wet Leg (still have to bring in the gender thing, even in 2024!) have a BIG audience in a musical word ruled by dance, hip hop etc.. no reason these guys can't deffo have a decent sized niche, if they can keep up this energy and passion

    Waiting impatiently that this band releases some studio music cos' I really dig their style. As a Groundhogs fan (I'm quite old I must say), I find there's some roughness in common. Not so often I instantly like a band I see on this channel. It's the case here.

    • @LouSmith
      @LouSmith 6 дней назад

      That is impatience. They've only just got going. Got a plum slot opening for Geordie Greep. They are very good. I'm not sure how to take your comment about not taking immediately to stuff on my channel! I'll assume there's something lost in translation, and that it generally takes you a while to get into new music, not specifically that my channel contains music that you generally don't like. Either way, I appreciate you taking time to comment. I wonder how much the name will cause issues as they get a bigger audience. There are a few bands that have that name, or a derivative of it, even if not for the potential for connotation. I honestly can't seeing it being a problem over here for them.

    How to get a gig here? Seems like a very influential venue on an artists career, especially when starting out?

    • @LouSmith
      @LouSmith 7 дней назад

      You have to email the booker Tim Perry at windmillbrixton@yahoo.co.uk. He's the gatekeeper and arbiter of taste for any band looking to get a start here. Jazz here has a fairly long history at the Windmill, having been in the original Fat Dog line up, and with various permutations of her solo stuff, and is an enthusiastic supporter of other bands, so loyalty to the venue would definitely garner you points. If you're lucky enough to get a spot, and behave yourself, chances are you'll be welcome back. If you're also lucky enough to catch my eye, and get published here, you'll find out what the greater public think of you, and that could be life changing, so yes, very influential in all.

      @sah-win honestly that was the first real post covid celebration of sweaty comingling, and people were so ecstatically jubilant having been canned for so long. This was probably peak Wooze, i'd say.

    I am late to the party ( pardon the pun) but im so happy this band happened to fall into my music search algorithm. Every song a well crafted gem..great musicianship, great vocals. i may hear possible influences from decades past..Queen, ABBA, PJ Harvey ( as we do with most artists) they have certainly created their own unique musical identity! Thanks for uploading!

    I hear the Black Midi influence in there, but I also hear something fresh and unique to only them. Thanks Lou for introducing me to these guys and sharing the fruitful music scene you happen to find yourself in. I can feel the energy of all these bands from the United States. Something special is going on over there.

      Aww. Thanks for clarifying. I did get you the first time. I'm glad I'm able to. Undeniably I hear some black midi here too, but as you say, are bringing enough of themselves not to be purely derivative. I really like them, and you're right about the fruitfulness of the scene. It's been bringing some great sounds for well over a decade now, with new, exciting bands forming all the while.

      Ben Harding’s band is also called Charlemagne and they’re not skinheads . The LA metal Charlemagne aren’t especially right wing, I don’t think. Nor are the Japanese shoegaze Charlemagne. Not sure if The Charlamagne from Birmingham count cos of the THE, but anyway they’re not known for being especially far right. Not sure about the Charlemagne from Washington but I don’t think they’re touring anymore anyway. Charlemagne Tha God doesn’t count cos most gods are pretty far right by nature, but they’re gods so we can’t do much about that. And Kids Of Charlemagne can be ignored cos they’re apparently kids, and they’re a bunch of oldies doing Steely Dan covers.
